A New Chapter in Tewkesbury: The Abbey Galleries Experience

Tewkesbury is a town of narrow alleys, medieval timber-framed buildings, and, of course, the towering presence of Tewkesbury Abbey. It is here, at 81 Church Street, that Jilly and Chris Oxlade-Arnott have opened their second location: Abbey Galleries Tewkesbury.

The Unique Charm of the Gallery

While many galleries can feel stark or intimidating, Abbey Galleries Tewkesbury carries over the relaxed and social atmosphere that made their Pershore location a success. This gallery acts as a bridge for a Worcester artist, bringing our work to a Cotswolds/Gloucestershire audience that appreciates the deep connection between art and heritage.

What makes this gallery unique is its eclectic mix.  Jilly and Chris have a keen eye for 3D works: ceramics, glass, and sculpture, that complement the 2D paintings on the walls. They have renovated this historic site to create a light-filled showroom that respects the building’s character while providing a contemporary stage for original art. Their on-site bespoke framing service also means that collectors can have their new pieces tailored perfectly to their own décor right there in the shop.

A Destination for Art Lovers

Being a Worcestershire artist represented in Tewkesbury is a privilege because the town itself is a living museum. The gallery’s location on Church Street puts it right in the heart of the action. Visitors often comment on the vibrancy of the collection, a testament to Jilly’s love for bold colour and Chris’s skill in curation.

The Tewkesbury Day Out

Tewkesbury is famous for its Abbey, the Old Baptist Chapel and its wealth of independent shops. After visiting the gallery to see the latest from your favourite Worcester artist, you can walk just a few minutes to the Abbey to see the stunning medieval stained glass. The town is also situated at the confluence of the Severn and Avon rivers, offering beautiful riverside walks that provide the perfect mental space to reflect on the original art you have discovered in the gallery!
