Step Behind the Scenes: Welcome to My Home for Worcestershire Open Studios

August is finally here, and with it comes one of the most exciting highlights of my year as a artist:

Worcestershire Open Studios.

Whether you have been following my artistic journey for years or are discovering my work for the very first time, I am thrilled to invite you into my creative space. For this year's event, I am throwing open the doors to my studio at Ombersley Road, Worcester (Venue 48). It is an opportunity to step behind the easel, explore my newest original paintings, and experience firsthand how light, colour, and texture come together on canvas.

What to Expect at Venue 48

Visiting an artist's studio offers something a traditional gallery simply cannot replicate: an intimate, sensory look at the creative process. When you visit Venue 48 this month, you won't just be looking at finished artwork on a wall - you will be stepping directly into the atmosphere where each piece was born.

Here is a glimpse of what awaits you:

  • New & Unseen Original Works: I will be displaying a freshly curated collection of original oil and acrylic paintings. From sweeping local landscapes inspired by the Malvern Hills and Herefordshire countryside to quiet home interior scenes and vibrant floral still lifes, there is a piece to evoke emotion in every visitor.
  • Fine Art Prints & Cards: In addition to large-scale original canvas art, I will have a selection of high-quality limited edition fine art prints and greeting cards available-perfect for finding that special gift or taking home a piece of local art.
  • Behind-the-Easel Demonstrations: Ever wondered how Post-Impressionist techniques translate into modern practice? I will be chatting about my 30+ years of painting, demonstrating how I work with light and colour, and sharing the stories behind specific paintings.
  • Pet Portrait Commissions: I am always delighted to chat with fellow animal lovers about bespoke pet portraits. You can view recent examples of my custom pet artwork and discuss commissioning a portrait of your own beloved dog or cat.

Inspired by Light, Driven by Colour

For over three decades, my art practice has been anchored in the principles of Post-Impressionism and Colourism. Classically trained in oil painting-and now working extensively in acrylics as well-my passion lies in capturing how changing light alters local colour, and more importantly, how colour makes us feel.

Whether I am dragging my easel through the Worcestershire landscape to catch the dramatic shift of clouds, painting the translucent quality of water, or arranging treasured heirloom antiques and seasonal blooms for a still life, my goal is to capture the extraordinary beauty in everyday moments.

When you visit my studio during Open Studios, we can talk about composition, colour theory, and the inspiration behind works like Good Morning, Malvern Hills! and Malvern Hills Rhapsody.
