Peonies - an Aftenoon Reverie in - Print
Peonies have always held an incredibly meaningful place in my heart, and, as a Gemini, I'm particularly fortunate to receive these captivating flowers from friends and family during their all-too-brief season. Each time I'm presented with these ephemeral, delicate blossoms, I am struck anew by their otherworldly beauty and the profound sense of gratitude they instil in me.
In this particular painting, started in the June 2021 but only finished in January 2025, the peonies are showcased in all their glorious, yet gentle splendour. Painted in oil, they represent a fleeting moment in time. I really enjoy using my music/dining room as a backdrop of my composition and it is no different in this painting. I used an antique 1920s reeded crystal vase and casually arranged these beautiful blooms in it. I particularly like how their gentle blush pinkness contrasts with a the jade green of the walls.
