Piano Room Symphony Original Painting

This painting has been selected as a finalist at the Broadway Arts Festival 2025 and will be available exclusively at the Finalist Exhibition at The Theatre Barn, Main St, Bretforton, Worcestershire WR11 7JH from 26th September - 5th October 2025.

This original painting from the interior scenes collection captures a moment of quiet history. In this quintessentially Victorian room, my favourite place in our home, nothing is new; every object tells a story. The scene centres around a mahogany family piano, over 140 years old and played daily, which stands as a silent testament to a lifetime of music. Its worn keys and aged wood are echoed by a 160-year-old mirror, sourced from a nearby estate sale, which reflects the room's deep past.

In this piece I have attempted to portray the soft, early spring light as it hesitantly enters the room, illuminating these beloved antiques. This delicate interplay of light and shadow creates a visual melody, transforming an ordinary interior into a timeless symphony where the past and present harmonize. This piece was painted over numerous super early mornings, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the cautious, yet beautiful, arrival of the day's first light on these treasured objects. Whilst painting, I particularly enjoyed the silent stillness of this room, which, only a couple of hours later, would fill with the hustle and bustle of family mornings.
