Some places possess a quiet magic that lingers long after you have departed. Buckland Manor is one of them.
This painting was inspired by a glorious early autumn walk along the Cotswold Way with a dear friend. Beneath endless blue skies and warm September sunshine, we wandered through the timeless landscape of the Cotswolds. We took more than one wrong turning, but those unexpected detours became part of the adventure, revealing hidden corners of the countryside that we might otherwise have missed.
Our destination was Buckland Manor, where an unforgettable afternoon tea awaited us.
Crossing the threshold from the fresh country air into the elegant surroundings of the manor was a delight in itself. Soft light filled the room, polished silver caught the afternoon sun, and beautifully laid tables promised a welcome pause after miles of walking. There is a serenity about Buckland Manor that cannot easily be described; it is something to be experienced.
As we lingered over del : sandwiches, warm scones and perfectly brewed tea, I found myself
captivated by the beauty of the room. The gentle light, the graceful furnishings and the atmosphere of effortless hospitality created a scene that I knew I wanted to paint.
With Afternoon Tea at Buckland Manor, I have sought to capture not only the elegance of this remarkable house but also the feeling it evokes-a sense of calm, comfort and quiet indulgence. It is a celebration of the English country house at its finest, where heritage, craftsmanship and hospitality come together in perfect harmony.
Like all of my interior paintings, this work tells a story. It speaks of friendship, shared adventures and the simple pleasure of pausing to enjoy life's special moments. It is a reminder that the most treasured memories are often found not in grand occasions, but in an afternoon bathed in autumn light, good conversation and a perfectly poured cup of tea.
For those who have experienced the charm of Buckland Manor, I hope this painting rekindles treasured memories. For those yet to discover it, I hope it offers an invitation to imagine an afternoon spent in one of the Cotswolds' most enchanting country houses, where time seems to slow and every detail is quietly, beautifully considered.
